Hip pain

Osteoarthritis: Osteoarthritis of the hip joint is one of the most common causes of hip pain, especially among older people. It occurs when the cartilage that protects the hip joint wears away, leading to pain, stiffness, and reduced range of motion. Symptoms can include pain in the groin or outside of the hip, as well as difficulty walking, bending, or standing for long periods of time.

Trochanteric Bursitis (Gluteal Bursitis): This is a type of bursitis that affects the bursa on the outside of the hip. This condition usually causes pain on the outside of the hip and can cause pain when walking, especially when the leg is elevated.

Femoacetabular Impingement (FAI): This condition occurs when there is an abnormal contact between the thighbone (femur) and the hip socket (acetabulum). This abnormal contact can cause pain and wear on the hip joint and is common in young, active people.

Pelvic floor dysfunction: In women, pelvic floor dysfunction, especially during pregnancy, can cause hip pain. This occurs when the pelvic joints loosen to prepare the body for childbirth. The pain is usually located in the groin and can be worsened with activity or movement..

Physical therapy: Exercises that strengthen the muscles around the hip joint and improve mobility can help reduce pain and prevent further injury. Exercises may be targeted to strengthen the thigh muscles, glutes, and hip flexors.

Medications: Pain relievers, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, or prescription medications can help reduce pain and inflammation.

Surgery for Bursitis or Impingement: In some cases, surgery may be needed to remove the inflamed bursa or to correct abnormal contact between the femur and the hip socket (FAI).
